A judge’s death starts a political battle

You must have noticed Antonin Scalia trending on Google searches. He was an associate justice of the Supreme Court of the United States who passed away last week. In US, a justice remains on his post till he dies. Hence, any appointment can have really long term impact. And with Obama being in the last year of his presidency, there is all this hue and cry.

Antonin Scalia was known for his “his prickly but intellectually dazzling role as an opinion writer and questioner of lawyers during oral arguments.”

“Context always matters. Let us not forget, however, why context matters: It is a tool for understanding the terms of the law, not an excuse for rewriting them.”
