1971 War : The Rashomon Effect


In my school days, I was a history buff and since then, I have always wondered what the history books in Bangladesh and Pakistan say about the 1971 war. Today’s Needull is a joint article by two journalists (Misha Hussain from Dhaka and Huma Imtiaz from Karachi; renowned international journalists now but newbies in 2010 when this article was written) where they bare their history books for us and present obvious contradictions in their versions. Considering that we, in India, have our own version of the war, it was an interesting (though not very surprising) read.
